in the benghazi attacks. mohamed jamaal abu ahmed was arrested by egyptian authorities a couple of weeks ago. and remains in custody while the investigation goes on. u.s. authorities believe he may have been involved in the september 11th terror hit that killed ambassador chris stevens and three other americans according to a u.s. official. the fbi which is conducting the investigation has not been able to talk to him yet. the official would not comment on what led them to him. abu ahmed is known as a radical jihadist, 45 years old, master degrees in sharia law. he's also believed to be the driving force behind a new terror group seeking to align itself with al qaeda according to our sources. and egyptian official says abu ahmed denied any connection to the attack on the u.s. consulate, or being affiliated with al qaeda. he's also believed to be connected to a heavily armed terror suspect that was rated in october in egypt. and five people were arrested. sources say they're looking at several people in the attack. the fbi has been covering a lot of territory, but they're still facing roadblo

in benghazi. take a listen. >> susan rice has done a great job as our u.n. ambassador. she has been a stalwart colleague in a lot of the tough decisions that we've had to make. and certainly with respect to defending our national interests and national security at the united nations. >> so clinton is also going to testify on benghazi next week. what are the politics of all of this for secretary clinton? and are there risks for her here? >> i don't think there are necessarily risks for her here as long as she stays out of the whole fray of susan rice and congressional republicans. there's an awful lot going on on that score, but i tnk hillary clinton may be able to keep herself above all that. by the way, we keep expecting the white house for this rice situation to be resolved. we fully expect president clinton to make -- excuse me, president obama to make his announcement about his national security team any day now. >> what do you hear with regards to that, david? are you hearing that susan race is going -- susan rice is going to get the nod or that the waters are shark infested and -- >> com

in benghazi. it was involved in attacks and planned attacks in europe. a lot of people forget they tried, actually in the 1990s to fly a plane in the eiffel tower much like what happened in new york on 9/11. so it's a very, virulent group that certainly threatens us and our allies. jenna: your expertise on this, peter, what do you think about our military intervention? we'll explain what that means in a moment. what do you think about us getting involved here? is this a good decision now with the tiling? what your thoughts? >> we need to recognize the threat and we need to prepare to do something but we need to really prepare the terrain. i'm very concerned that we're rushing into something that's very half-baked. the african force that is talked about is a little over 3300 men. which is a laughable amount when you're talking about an area the size of texas. it is not a serious force. so they need our help. they need some training but they're not adequate. so until there's really commitment to put a force in there, that can actually do something, we run the risk of jumping into something

. there's no question that benghazi continues to be litigated. even on the democratic side, there is some division on this. i've talked to democratic senators who have questioned whether she has the standing, the stature, to be secretary of state. so obviously there's some division about how people view susan rice. but here's the bottom line. she's very close to the president of the united states. she is a key voice in his national security team. that's what could ultimately win the day. john kerry has been campaigning hard for it. he's done everything this administration has asked in their first term. overseas, been quite engaged as chairman of the foreign relations committee. so he's certainly a very strong candidate. but at this point, even people close to the president suggest there's just a bit of a question mark about how much of a fight he wants and how much it will come down to getting somebody he believes in and he's close to into that job. >> congressman cleaver, your thoughts on susan rice as a potential nominee. >> well, i think susan rice is imminently qualified and capable o
